Campus Announcements Emails: Important Changes

With the relaunch of MySimmons, several changes have been made to Campus Announcements. First, to submit an announcement, you use the "Submit an Announcement" online form here:

http://my.simmons.edu/announce

Your announcement is then submitted to the category owner for approval. Once approved, your announcement will appear on the MySimmons homepage and in the appropriate category on the site, where it is much easier to find than the old email-only system.

In addition, all announcements will go out via email as in the past, but with several significant improvements:

  • Campus Announcement emails are formatted as plain text. We've eliminated HTML formatting in order to increase accessibility, legibility and usability.
  • Within the email, announcements are consistently structured in a way that increases one's ability to scan the email for information of interest. Each announcement is comprised of three parts: the headline; a 40 word excerpt, and the link to the full entry on MySimmons.
  • A "digest" listing all announcements made to MySimmons in the preceeding 24 hours will be emailed daily. Again, titles, excerpts and links are provided for every announcement.
  • Alternately, you can choose to receive each campus announcement individually (you may want to do this so that you can scan the titles of emails in your inbox for items of interest and delete the rest, rather than having to open the daily digest to read through the titles).

    To change your preferences, follow these steps:
    • From your web browser go to http://lists.simmons.edu
    • Login using your Simmons username and password
    • From the upper-right menu click "Your Subscriptions" to display the lists you are subscribed to
    • Click on the list for which you want to change your subscription options (e.g. campusannouncements@simmons.edu)
    • At the left of the window, click "Subscriber Options"
    • Select the drop-down menu, choosing either "html" or "text" individual delivery
