MassCIS
Freely available to all Massachusetts residents, the Massachusetts Career Information System provides detailed descriptions of hundreds of occupations, along with related education and training information as well as guides for job searching, starting your own business, and more. There are also several assessment tools to help you identify career options that match your interests, skills, and values. First-time users: Scroll down past the log-in boxes to enter your town and zip code information. Once you enter the system, you will have the option to create a personal account by clicking "My MassCIS Portfolio."

Occupational Outlook Handbook 
The OOH provides occupation descriptions with a focus on forecasting trends. Descriptions include typical salary ranges (these ranges are national, so keep in mind that ranges are often higher in the northeast) and an outlook for growth trends in the field. Also provided are links to professional associations representing professionals in the given field.

O*Net Online: Occupational Information Network
O*Net contains meticulously described definitions for 900+ job titles. While this resource does not include the job outlook information found in the Occupational Outlook Handbook, it does include many more individual position descriptions. Search for job titles by the "skills, abilities, knowledges, work activities and interests" associated with them. Once a job title is selected, a detailed description of the work is provided with links to related positions.

The Occupational Outlook Quarterly
A publication of the US Department of Labor, it features articles on a wide variety of occupations and industries. Recent articles include "Wild jobs with wildlife: Jobs in zoos and aquariums" and "Forensic scientists: A career in the crime lab." View a list of careers and occupations covered in the online index.
