The Buildings of Simmons College
Early Simmons Buildings


Between 1902 and 1907 Simmons College leased several buildings in and around Boston's Back Bay neighborhood. These buildings served as dormitories, classrooms, and offices and are noted on this 1904 map of Boston.

300 The Fenway -- Site of the Main College Building, built by Simmons College and completed in 1904

45 - 47 St. Botolph St. -- Site of the School of Housekeeping, acquired by Simmons College from the Women's
Educational and Industrial Union in 1902; the buildings were leased from 1902 to 1907

38 St. Botolph St. -- Site of Simmons Hall, leased as the first dormitory for students between 1902 and 1907

739 Boylston St. -- Site of Boylston Chambers, leased as classroom space in 1903 - 1904

30 Huntington Ave. -- Site of Huntington Chambers, leased as office space in 1903 - ca. 1904

372 Boylston St. (not shown on map) -- Site of former Boston Cooking School lab, leased in 1903

The College Archives is pleased to present this historical survey of the buildings of Simmons College--from the earliest classrooms, and offices in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, through the construction of the Main College Building at 300 The Fenway, the development of the Residence Campus, and recent addiitons of academic buildings and the construction and renovation of a new library.
