In the spring of 1976, Simmons College acquired the assets of Garland Junior College, a small women's college located at the time on Commonwealth Avenue and Marlborough Street near Kenmore Squre in Boston's Back Bay. Among the assets were several buildings which date from the late 1800s.
Since 1977, Simmons has used these buildings to house the Simmons School of Management (formerly, in turn, the Graduate Program in Management and the Graduate School of Management).
The campus of the Simmons School of Management consists of the Mary Garland Center (at 407, 409, 411, 413-415, and 419 Commonwealth Avenue) and the Mockler Building (located at 451 Marlborough Street), named after Colman Mockler, former CEO of the Gillette Company and long-time Chairman of the Simmons Board of Trustees.

The Mockler Building at 451 Marlborough Street, photographed here in the early 1980s, contains two caserooms, wired into electronic classrooms in 1997,
for MBA classes, as well as a kitchen and mailboxes for students.

In Spring 2007, ground was broke at Simmons College's main academic campus for a new building which, once conpleted in 2009, will house the School of Management.
