During the early years, Simmons' traditions included such events as the Faculty-Student Baseball Game, Freshman Frolic, Founder's Day, Ghost Walk, Hobo Party, Junior-Freshman Wedding, May Day, Olde English Dinner, Step-Singing, and Student Government Party.
As the years passed, some of these traditions were either dropped or transformed, reflecting changing interests of the students. Newer traditions include Father-Daughter Weekend, Mother-Daughter Weekend, Spring Spree, and Valentine's Day Ball.
But whether you are Class of 1946 or Class of 2006, all alumnae share memories of the one tradition that has remained constant through the years: May Day, with its Maypole dance at dawn and wonderful strawberry shortcake breakfast, is the oldest of Simmons' traditions!
Please take your time and browse through this exhibit, prepared by the College Archives staff, featuring some of the histories of various College traditions, or check out the Timeline of when various Traditions began.
And if you are a Simmons alumna, feel free to contact the College Archives to share your own memories of Simmons Traditions.
