The Simmons SOM Collection is a special collection, contained at the Beatley Library, of information and resources supporting the SOM's unique MBA curriculum and the educational mission of the school. The collection provides electronic and print resources on all aspects of management, including an in-depth collection on women and management.
Collection
Circulating and Reference books specific to the Management school are held at the Beatley Library, and are interfiled with the collection. For career books that provide information on careers, employers, job outlooks and salaries, please visit the Career Resource Library.Research Appointments
The SOM Librarians are always available to assist you in your course and career research. When beginning a project, it is a good idea to meet with a librarian to brainstorm on potential resources and to learn how to use the appropriate electronic resources. You may drop in at any time (room L-113), or call Linda Schuller Wolf (617.521.2767) to arrange a specific time. Please arrange for a research appointment if you require more than 15 minutes.Course Reserves
Course Reserves are held at the Circulation Desk and typically circulate for three hours, although some may have varying loan periods. Reserve textbooks are not to be substituted for purchasing your own personal copies. For faculty, information on how to place course reserves can be found at the Reserves homepage.
Inter Library Loan (ILL)
Books and periodical articles not owned by Simmons may be requested free of charge through ILL. Please allow at least 10 days for book requests to arrive; journal articles are often available online in pdf format within a few days.
The SOM Librarians have a blog, available at http://somlibrarian.wordpress.com/, recently recognized by HR World as one of the "Top 100 Management and Leadership Blogs". The blog focuses on areas of interest to the students, faculty, and staff of the SOM community. Topics include women in business, corporate social responsibility, marketing, entrepreneurship, and many others.
We hope you will continue to consider the School of Management Library as one of your resources for business and career research. While serving the needs of current students and faculty is our top priority, we do our best to assist SOM alums as time permits.
Services that remain available to you free of charge include:
- On site use of all of our electronic resources, including the Bloomberg terminal. Contractual agreements with our database vendors limit remote access to current students.
- Borrowing privileges for all circulating books of the Simmons College Library
- Appointments with library staff to strategize your research
- Answers to quick telephone/e-mail reference questions
Donations to the SOM Library's Blecker Fund are always appreciated and help fund the Library's resource collection.
