Overdue and Fine Notices

When library materials checked out to you become overdue, you will receive two reminder notices by e-mail or snail mail to return or renew the materials. If you do not respond to these notices, you will be billed a standard fee for replacement and processing costs. If you do not respond to the bill, it will be sent to the Treasurer's Office and added to your Simmons account balance.

Overdue and bill notices for Fenway Consortium borrowers will be mailed to their home library.

Late fees are charged for overdue reserve materials and museum passes. Overdue reserves are 25 cents per hour. Overdue museum passes are $5 per day.

Recalls

If an item you want is checked out to another library user, you may request that it be recalled. The item may not be recalled from the original borrower sooner than its normal minimum loan period. If you need an item that is checked out before its earliest due date, call or visit the Circulaton desk. Staff there will help you locate the material you need as quickly as possible. The Circulation desk can be reached at 617.521.2786.

Locates

If you cannot find a particular item on the shelf, visit or call the Circulation desk and ask for assistance. Our staff will check the shelf for you. If we are unable to locate the material immediately, we will initiate a search and try to find the item for you elsewhere. The Circulation desk can be reached at 617.521.2786.

Renewals

Simmons students, faculty and staff may renew library materials online, over the phone (617.521.2786), or in person. Alumnae/i and other types of borrowers may renew items over the phone or in person. Materials that are listed as renewable in the charts above may be renewed up to three times unless another library user has requested them.

Holds

You may place a hold on an item that is checked out, so that you will be next in line to borrow it. Or, you may place a hold on a book from the Simmons School of Management Library so that the book will be delivered to Beatley Library for you to pick up.

You may place a hold from the Library's online public access catalog (OPAC) by finding the record for the item you want and clicking on the "Request" button at the top of the screen. Only current Simmons faculty, staff and students may place holds online. You will be prompted for your email username and password, and asked to select the copy of the item that you want. You will be notified by phone when your request has arrived at Beatley Library Circulation desk for pick-up. Once the item arrives at Beatley Library, we will hold it for you for one week before returning it to circulation.
