Other Simmons Resources
Simmons College provides a number of resources to its students. Students may receive additional supports or services by contacting these resources directly. Some of the resources available to students include the following:
J. Garton Needham Counseling Center
The Counseling Center's staff offers personal counseling services to undergraduate and graduate students who wish to discuss their concerns and questions with staff psychologists, or interns in psychology, counseling, and social work.
Office of Student Life
The Office of Student Life seeks to serve and support all students at Simmons, either through direct one-on-one assistance, or through referral to other campus resources.
Simmons College Health Center
The Simmons Health Center, located on the residence campus, offers health care to Simmons students seven days a week, 24 hours a day during the academic year. Physicians, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners staff the center. All physicians are board certified and have appointments at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both just down the street.
Health Education Program
The Health Education Program educates students about important health topics and fosters a health-conscious culture at Simmons. Programs are taught in classes, residence halls, through clubs, organizations, and sports teams. Topics include safety in the city, a self-defense course, healthy relationships, stress and time management, smoking cessation, healthy eating, eating disorders, drugs and alcohol, and safe sex.
Campus Ministries
Spiritual well-being is an important consideration for many students. There is an Office of Campus Chaplains, as well as several student religious organizations available to you.
Academic Support Center
The Academic Support Center's goal is to assist all students to become independent learners. To aid all students' progress, the Center provides appropriate resources and services to all undergraduate and graduate students. We match students with tutors, advise students with study skills and time management, and offer help to students learning English as a Second Language, as well as accommodate students with disabilities.
Tutoring Services
Individual course tutors are available in many of the major concentrations including biology, chemistry; foreign languages; mathematics; and, physics. Study groups offer weekly reviews of course material in many introductory undergraduate courses. Tutor Specialists offer individual assistance by appointment with study skills, preparation for the Math Competency Exam and in the high demand disciplines in biology, chemistry, physics and nursing.
Writing Center
Writing tutors coach students to better organize and structure their writing, to refine generalities, to learn new self-editing habits. Tutors work with undergraduate and graduate students in courses from all disciplines. Students for whom English is a second language may meet the writing specialist or a writing tutor to receive help planning and revising written work, expanding reading and vocabulary skills, and practicing speaking and listening.
Career Education Center
The Career Education Center (CEC) offers a wide variety of free services and programs to help students and alumnae/i make important career decisions, including assistance with choosing a major, perfecting interviewing skills, preparing effective job search materials, and developing job search strategies. The Miller/Knopf Career Resource Library (CRL) has an extensive collection of career and graduate school information and is open to all Simmons College students and alumnae/i for their research. All students also have access to an online job and career information database.
Pottruck Technology Resource Center
Technology training classes and workshops are available to students throughout the year. Some past course offerings include: Photoshop, Statistical Software, Powerpoint, Dreamweaver, HTML, and Microsoft Office.
Public Safety
Simmons has an excellent public safety program. Campus security includes 24-hour patrols and electronic security in all residence halls. In addition to implementing and supervising safety programs, such as the escort-on-request service, we provide safety awareness, education, and training for the Simmons community.
