Personal Technology Purchasing Guidelines

Simmons students, faculty, and staff have access to special Simmons and general academic discounts on hardware and software at our online stores. If you are shopping for a computer, Technology suggests that you only consider one meeting our specifications; special discounts for such systems are available through the Simmons Apple store. (Simmons will recommend a PC vendor in the fall.) In general, consider purchasing the software that Technology considers "standard" and installs on all Simmons-owned computers.

Simmons and Other Online Stores with Discounts for the Simmons Community

Online Store	Information
	Shop at HP, Dell, or Lenovo for Windows desktops and laptops meeting Simmons specifications, and with proper care it will last you throughout your Simmons education. Simmons will recommend a PC vendor in the fall. For Microsoft, Adobe, and other software, see below.

	Disinfect & Protect: Free antivirus and other tools for safe computing: step-by-step instructions for downloading Simmons' FREE antivirus software and taking care of your personal computer.
	At the Simmons e-academy store, find rock-bottom prices on Microsoft products (including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), Minitab 15, and SPSS 17. Note: SPSS 17 is not compatible with SPSS 16. Simmons has 17 installed. To buy through e-academy, follow the link, then: Click Sign In at the top of the page. Use your Simmons email accout name and password to authenticate your account. Note: There are items available based on your affiliation (i.e. faculty, staff or student). To view your eligibility, click Your Account (at the top) and click Your Eligibility. You will be directed to a page that shows your affiliation. Faculty and staff: Through the Simmons SPSS license, faculty and staff may install SPSS at home; contact the Help Desk for details; using SAS requires that your department purchase a license.
Adobe software	Students, faculty, and staff who need an Adobe product should buy through CDW-G: the prices are incredibly low, compared to normal Adobe pricing.
