MBA Office Updates

Note From Mary D.

Well, who would have thought that the Red Sox would have pulled off their amazing comeback against the Indians to get to the World Series and the Patriots remain undefeated. So this week, my analogy relates to teams. In the comeback of the Red Sox and in the win last night, it was different players who shined this time and my point is that teams are built around the fact that everyone brings different skills and competencies to the table that get utilized in a variety of situations. If you look at the Red Sox rookies, they have taken advantage of all the opportunities that have presented themselves and made the most of them. All of you are talented women, you wouldn’t be here otherwise. Make the most of opportunities you have in front of you to show everyone all the great things you can do.  The other obvious one is that never stop believing in your own capabilities, because that desire to put forth the best effort you can, each and every day will make your dreams come true! We’ll save the Patriots until next week as that is a great story about execution!!

Quotes of the Week

MBA Registration will open on November 13th. Materials will be out on November 5th or 6th!

Special Request From Mary D.

In the next few weeks, you may see a request from some UG marketing students that will be asking you for some information that will help them gather data for their senior seminar presentations. As I have moved into my new job that spans both the UG and MBA programs, I am trying to identify synergies where the MBA program can help our UG’s. For example, below you will see a group that has a product targeting international travelers, asking for MBA students that have traveled abroad in the last year for business to fill out a short survey. I would ask you to help them out if you can!!

Women's Business Breakfast: Her Turn -- Why It's Time for Women to Lead America

Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House. Condoleezza Rice is Secretary of State. Hillary Clinton is a frontrunner among a long list of prominent presidential hopefuls. And women CEOs rule at such major corporations as PepsiCo, Xerox, eBay, and Citigroup. But is the glass ceiling shattered? Find out what you can do to start planning now for your big move up, up, up! In her new book, Her Turn: Why It's Time for Women to Lead America, Vicki Donlan makes the case that women have the numbers, talents, determination and willingness to lead. And they are ready for the challenge. Join us for this exploration of the dramatic changes that will result as more and more women take leadership roles in business, politics, higher education, health care, and philanthropy. Find out how these changes will benefit generations to come, in America and around the world. A book signing will follow the program.

The next Boston Center for Adult Education Women’s Business Breakfast is being held on November 13th from 7:15-9:00am at 5 Commonwealth Ave. We will need to send the BCAE a list of people that will be attending from the SOM in the beginning of November. Business Plan Competition and Tea with Ros Jaffe

For those of you that attended last Friday’s tea with Ros Jaffe or the Business Plan competition, it was a chance to not only watch your peers in action-presenting in front of 115 people, but also to learn from some very successful executives how they react in the moment to presentations in front of them, deliver feedback, ask probing questions, and relate their business experience with concrete examples, suggestions, etc. The goal to help continue to refine the ideas of the finalists was clear and everyone in the room learned something. I also heard those who attended the tea with Ros also really enjoyed listening to her story and getting a chance to interact with another very successful entrepreneur and executive.

Borrowing Things from the MBA Office

Over the last couple of weeks, we are noticing that office supplies are disappearing off of desks in the MBA office. We have lost pencil sharpeners, tape dispensers, scissors, etc. While I am not necessarily opposed to someone borrowing something if they are in a pinch, I really would hope that you would return anything that is taken and leave us a note.
