  1. What happens to my Simmons email account?
  2. Three months after graduation all of your Simmons accounts will be disabled, including email, file server, ARCC, Simmons eLearning, MySimmons, and access to your personal web space.  Starting the month after you graduate, you can set up an alumnet email address, and forward any email account (e.g. gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.) to your new permanent Simmons address.  If you need to set up your alumnet address sooner, please email alumnet@simmons.edu.
To register for an alumnet account, see www.alumnet.simmons.edu/olc/pub/SNS/register/register.cgi
  3. How do I set up email forwarding?
If you haven't already done so, forward your Simmons email account to a personal account.  If you set up forwarding for your account, you will continue to receive official Simmons email messages while the forwarding is in place (3 months after graduation).
For more information about forwarding your email, go to email.simmons.edu, click on Email Tips and see tip #5.
  4. Should I set up an email auto-reply?
Yes, you should set up an email auto-reply to let people know that your email address is changing.  For example, if you set up forwarding, and an auto-reply, your auto-reply might say:
I just graduated from Simmons College, and so please change my entry in your address book to jane.doe@server.com.  I am forwarding my mail, so I have received your email message.  I'll get back to you soon.
For more information about how to set up an auto-reply, go to email.simmons.edu, click on Email Tips and see tip #6.
  5. How long do I have access to my documents on the Simmons file server (Y: drive)?
You have three months after graduation to retrieve your documents from the Simmons file server.  Before leaving Simmons, give yourself ample time to save all your important files from the Y: drive onto a CD or a USB flash storage devices. For assistance, come to the Information Commons and ask a Technology Desk Staff member.  You can also access and save your files from any computer with Internet access from remote.simmons.edu
Also see our web page about the Simmons file server
  6. How long after graduation will I have access to my course information on Simmons Vista?
You have three months after graduation to retrieve your course information from Simmons Vista.  For assistance, come to the Information Commons and ask a Technology Desk Staff member.
  7. Can I still use the computers and print in the Information Commons?
You can continue to use the computers in the Information Commons. Your username and password will no longer work, so please ask a Technology Desk Staff member to log you on.  As for printing, your ID card expires right after graduation, so get a new Fenway card from any of the Information Commons services points: the Circulation, Reference or Technology desks. In order to use the card to print, you must first set it up and add value (money) to it with a credit card online.
  8. Can I still take technology training workshops?
Training courses and online training are available to alums through the PTRC. You can sign up for PTRC courses online and get more information about online training (ElementK) at my.simmons.edu/technology/ptrc.  All PTRC courses and trainings are free for alums.
  9. Do I need to purchase my own copy of anti-virus software?
After graduation, you are no longer eligible to use the free anti-virus software the College makes available to current students.  We urge you to purchase anti-virus software to protect your personal computer, immediately.  McAfee, Norton, and Trend Micro's products are among the best known.
  10. What Library resources are available to me?
After graduation, you will continue to have access to many Library resources.  Borrowing privileges, reference assistance, and access to the Miller/Knopf Career Resource Library are just a few of the services available to you.
